Description

Special-effect paint with a holographic rainbow effect. When light hits the surface, it is refracted to create a colourful spectrum similar to a rainbow. Without direct light, the finish appears subtly grey, but in sunlight it comes alive with an intense shimmering effect.

Hologram paints require a three-step application. To achieve the full effect, first apply a basecoat colour. We recommend a black basecoat, as shown in the product photos and videos. Follow with the Hologram effect coat and finish with a clear topcoat to protect the finish and enhance its shine.

Type: Solvent-based Basecoat 1K (BCB). Our spray cans contain the same professional basecoat paint that we supply to paint shops in tins.

Basecoat and Other Options

For a strong and clearly visible holographic effect, we recommend a black basecoat. A white or grey basecoat may also be used. The selected base colour will influence the final appearance.

For larger projects, the paint is also available from 100 ml for spray-gun application.

How to use the paint

Hologram spray paint is applied as a three-step paint system over a properly prepared surface: black BC basecoat, Hologram effect layer and a final clear coat. The black basecoat provides the strongest contrast and makes the rainbow reflections clearly visible in direct light.

1. Surface preparation

Sand, clean and thoroughly degrease the surface. Remove corrosion where necessary and repair any scratches or imperfections before painting.

2. Black basecoat

Apply 2–3 thin coats to create a uniform matte black surface without sand-through spots. Allow approx. 5–10 minutes flash-off time between coats.

3. Hologram effect

Apply 2–3 very light coats using smooth, overlapping passes. Keep the spray can vertical and distribute the effect evenly across the entire surface.

Coverage: up to approx. 1 m² per 400 ml spray can

4. Clear coat

After the Hologram layer has fully flashed off, apply a suitable clear coat according to the product TDS. A gloss finish produces maximum brilliance, while a matte clear coat creates a more subtle appearance.

Choose a clear coat

Application temperature: spray can, surface and surroundings at 20–25 °C
Preparation: shake the spray can thoroughly for at least 2 minutes
Hologram coats: usually 2–3 very light coats
Flash-off: approx. 10 minutes between coats and approx. 40 minutes after the final coat
Spray position: always keep the spray can vertical during application

Tip: Always make a test spray on a sample panel before painting the final part. Check the effect both in shade and in direct sunlight, as the holographic rainbow reflections become most visible under strong direct light.
