Description

100 ml of undiluted holographic BC basecoat. The paint reacts to direct light, refracting it into a vivid holographic rainbow spectrum. It is a solvent-based Basecoat 1K (BCB) paint designed for spray-gun application.

Holographic paint is applied as a three-step paint system. To achieve the full effect, first apply a coloured basecoat. We recommend a black basecoat, as shown in the product photos and videos. Follow with the holographic effect layer and finish with a clear topcoat to protect the surface and enhance its shine.

Why choose Holographic Paint?

Holographic paint works by refracting light. Under direct light, it creates a rainbow effect that visibly moves as the viewing angle changes. Without direct light, the finish appears subtle and muted – grey when applied over black. In sunlight or under a strong spotlight, it comes alive with an intense rainbow display.

It is ideal for both smaller custom parts and complete paint projects, including wheels, mirrors, motorcycles, helmets, bicycles and many other accessories. When correctly applied and protected with a suitable clear coat, the holographic effect is durable and long-lasting.

The final appearance depends on the selected basecoat colour, which remains visible beneath the holographic rainbow effect. We recommend a black or white basecoat, although other colours can also be used to create different results.

How to use the paint

Holographic paint for spray gun is applied as a three-step paint system over a properly prepared surface: black BC basecoat, Holographic effect layer and a final clear coat. The black basecoat provides the strongest contrast and makes the moving rainbow reflections clearly visible in direct light.

Before application, mix Holographic Paint in a 1:1 ratio with acrylic thinner. The coverage is approximately 9 m2 per litre of undiluted paint. As a guide, approximately 300 ml is sufficient for painting both sides of a set of alloy wheels, 200 ml for a bicycle frame and around 2 litres for a complete passenger car.

1. Surface preparation

Sand, clean and thoroughly degrease the surface. Remove corrosion where necessary and repair any scratches, sanding marks or other imperfections before painting.

2. Black basecoat

Apply 2–3 thin coats to create a uniform matte black surface without sand-through spots. Allow approx. 5–10 minutes flash-off time between coats.

3. Holographic effect

Apply 2–3 thin coats evenly using smooth, overlapping passes. The application method is similar to a conventional metallic basecoat. The holographic effect particles have a size of approximately 20 microns.

Coverage: approx. 0.9 m² per 100 ml of undiluted paint

4. Clear coat

After the Holographic layer has fully flashed off, apply a suitable clear coat according to the product TDS. Choose a gloss finish for maximum brilliance or a matte clear coat for a more subtle appearance.

Choose a clear coat

  • Mixing ratio: 1:1 with acrylic thinner
  • Spray gun: HVLP spray gun with a 1.3–1.4 mm nozzle
  • Holographic coats: usually 2–3 thin coats
  • Flash-off: approx. 10 minutes between coats and approx. 40 minutes after the final coat
  • Effect particle size: approx. 20 microns

What you need for the complete finish:

  • Black basecoat – creates contrast for the holographic effect
  • This Holographic Paint – creates the moving rainbow reflections
  • Clear coat – protects the finish and provides a gloss or matte appearance
  • Acrylic thinner – mix with the paint in a 1:1 ratio

Tip: Always make a test spray on a sample panel before painting the final part. Check the result both in shade and in direct sunlight, as the rainbow reflections become most visible under strong direct light.
