How to Paint Candy Pearl – Complete Spray Can & Spray Gun Guide

Candy Pearl – spray can application guide (400 ml)

1) Black basecoat – spray can

• Lightly matt the surface with Scotch-Brite, degrease it with silicone remover and wipe it with an antistatic tack cloth.
• Apply the black BC basecoat in 2–3 thin coats with approx. 5–10 minutes flash-off time between coats. The goal is a uniform matte film without glossy areas. The paint may appear glossy immediately after application but becomes matte as the solvents evaporate.
• After the final coat, allow approx. 20 minutes flash-off time. The solvents should be evaporated, and the surface should be matte and no longer tacky.

2) Candy Pearl – spray can

• Shake the spray can thoroughly for at least 2 minutes and make a test spray on a sample panel.
• Apply 2–3 thin to medium coats forming a continuous film without runs, with approx. 10 minutes flash-off time between coats. Keep the spray can 20–30 cm from the surface and maintain an even overlap of approx. 70%.
• Work smoothly and begin and finish every pass outside the painted area.
• Keep the spray can vertical throughout the application, with the valve and nozzle facing upwards. Incorrect positioning may cause spitting and loss of pressure.

3) Gloss clear coat – spray can

• Choose a suitable gloss clear coat. Apply 2 medium coats, or 3 thin coats, according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
• When using a 2K spray clear coat, observe its pot life after activation.

Black basecoat – step one

Lightly matt the filled surface with Scotch-Brite to remove dust and small particles, degrease it with silicone remover and wipe it with an antistatic tack cloth. Candy Pearl requires a black basecoat. Always apply the basecoat over filler without sand-through spots and use a matte BC basecoat. Allow approx. 10 minutes flash-off time between coats. Usually 2–3 coats are sufficient. After the final coat, allow approx. 20 minutes flash-off time until the surface is matte and no longer tacky.

Candy Pearl – step two, spray gun

Apply Candy Pearl over the flashed-off black basecoat in 2–3 coats with approx. 10 minutes flash-off time between coats. Use a 1.3–1.4 mm nozzle and mix the paint in a 1:1 ratio with thinner. After the final coat, allow approx. 40 minutes flash-off time. The surface must then be dry enough to be lightly wiped with an antistatic tack cloth.

Gloss clear coat – step three

Once the Candy Pearl layer has flashed off, apply a gloss clear coat according to the technical data sheet of the selected product. We recommend a 2K clear coat for durability and long-term protection of the finished effect. Clear coat run? It can be repaired.
